History Mystery Tour

There was a big earthquake in Sichuan on 4/20.  This is a relief concert put on by the Red Cross the next day.  It was right in front of my hotel.  (My hotel is the big tower)

Here is the mom out selling some of her bananas by the side of the road.  They will do this if the husband is off doing something else.  No time wasted.  If she can make a sale its one more dollar in the family coffers.

There is a river that runs right across the street from the factory.  On most days there is nothing going on but today there were half a dozen small cargo boats tied up.  The family lives on these (in the back) and they have a small cargo area (under tarp) that they use to move stuff around the inner waterways.  This boat had a load of bananas. (See mom selling some above)

This funny little police car is from a gated apartment building not too far from my hotel.  They like picking American names for them because it makes them sound more upscale.  There is no seaside within at least 100 miles nor are the apartments on any "heights", but it sounds exotic!

You see funny signs and misspellings all the time.  This one gave me a chuckle because it's supposed to say "Seafood Grill".  The misspelling was somewhat apropos.

Not a great pic, but pigs on the way to a restaurant.

Taxi waiting in the rain.

Another day of gunky visibility.

This is how FedEx is delivered to the factory.

It's so hazy sometimes you can look straight at the sun.

One of my engineers training a Chinese engineer how to do stress calculations.

We sculpted our first horse!

Old belt driven machine in the factory where I work.  It's like working in a factory from 1950.

Typical restaurant selection, including silkworms.

Sandworms.

Chicken testicle soup.

Snack soup

Fried snake.  Yes, those are snake tails.

Alligator ready to eat.

Fresh alligator waiting for the chef

Some fun things to eat.

A four course meal.  Japanese Airlines so much better than United.

What a seat looks like in Business class.  It reclines into a bed, your feet fit under the TV.

View outside the plane on the way to China.

Happy Valley Theme Park - Shanghai Jan 2013

To my right (photo left) is Mark Sumner, a good friend who invented the ride mechanism for the first "Soar'n" attraction.  This one is a knockoff.
It's freezing out, but still need a roller coaster ride to complete the day!

I'm a "Westerm" Pioneer.  Don't ask me what Pshome means.
Maybe they thought that was an Indian's tribal name?

Snakes in Restaurants - Zhongshan Jan 2013

Typical restaurant bucket o' snakes

This restaurant had some poisonous snakes as well, bottom one is a cobra.

A day's supply?

Venice Italy - Nov 2012

The Courtrooms were in the building on the left, the prison in the building on the right.
This was the last place to see a family member or loved one after they received their sentence.

Front Gate of the Armory

Typical side street and bridge.
Notice the high water marks from the winter floods.

One of many churches throughout the city.

Just a goon tourist.
